This page provides links to software or information that might be useful to you if you want to pursue digital fabrication on your own. We’ll keep updating this page as the project goes on.
All the software we will list is free, or only requires payment for advanced features.
3D modelling software is used to create the digital models that 3D printers use. This will normally make an STL file that can be fed to the printer. You can also download other people’s 3D models from the Internet and modify them.
If you want to create a 3D model of a real object, you can scan it. At the launch event, 3D scanning was done using an Xbox Kinect, but you can also use an iPad or Android tablet if you have one!
Sometimes you might want to create a flat image rather than a 3D one. This is especially useful for laser cutting.
